Alavarez extends Celta deal

Celta Vigo goalkeeper Sergio Alvarez has extended his contract at the club by twelve months after lengthy negotiations.

The 31-year-old’s previous contract at Estadio Balaidos was due to expire in June 2018 but the Galician club only offered him a one-year renewal, which he had previously rejected.

“I’m very happy to be here and to be able to enjoy Celta,” Alvarez told official club media.

“This is my first home and I have spent so many years here, I have enjoyed many moments and I am happy to continue with this beautiful project.”

Alvarez has spent the entirety of his career with Celta, making 156 league appearances across 12 seasons, and is the only played at the club out of contract this summer but has recently fallen behind Ruben Blanco in the pecking order.
