Aimar plays final game

Former Valencia star Pablo Aimar came out of retirement for one match to play for hometown club Estudiantes Rio Cuarto in the Copa Argentina.

The 38-year-old last played a professional football match three years ago for River Plate but played alongside his brother Andres, 36, against Sportivo Belgrano.

The playmaker made over 200 appearances for Los Che across five seasons before spending a further two campaigns at Real Zaragoza, while he eventually joined Benfica.

Aimar played 50 minutes for the Rio Cuarto club – the town where he was born – before telling reporters at the full-time whistle that this ‘was the end’ of his playing career.

He has been Coach of the Argentina Under-17 national side since June 2017.
