OFFICIAL: Barca to sign Coutinho

Barcelona have agreed to sign Liverpool attacker Philippe Coutinho for a reported €160m.

According to several publications, among them BBC Sport, Barca will pay €118m up front for Coutinho, plus another €42m in "realistic addons".

"Liverpool FC can confirm Philippe Coutinho will be leaving the club after a transfer agreement was reached with FC Barcelona, subject to medical and agreement of personal terms," read a statement on Liverpool's official website.

"The player now has permission to complete the usual formalities to conclude the transfer immediately."

The former Espanyol ace, 25, is now set to undergo a medical in Catalonia, before putting pen to paper on a five-and-a-half-year contract with the Blaugrana, which includes a €400m release clause.

However, he will not be able to play for Barca in the Champions League this season, having already represented the Reds in the competition.

Coutinho’s transfer is only eclipsed by Neymar's €222m switch to Paris Saint-Germain last summer, although Kylian Mbappe will join the French giants permanently for €180m at the end of the season.
