Ajax beat Betis to Tagliafico

Ajax have reportedly beaten Real Betis to the signing of Independiente defender Nicolas Tagliafico in a deal worth €5m, say reports in Spain.

The 25-year-old Argentinean’s contract expires in December 2018 and he reportedly was keen on a move to European football in January, with Los Verdiblancos among his admirers.

However, Estadio Deportivo report that Betis saw a bid of €4m rejected while last season beaten Europa League finalists have now seen a €5m package accepted.

The full-back was said to have been monitored by Sevilla – city rivals of Betis – last summer but the player was not willing to leave his club at that point.

Tagliafico previously spent one season in Spain’s second tier with Real Murcia, and has spent six seasons in the first-team of Argentinean top flight football, first with Banfield before a 2015 switch to Independiente.

Betis will look for alternatives as it appears likely Romanian defender Alin Tosca will be allowed to leave for PAOK in Greece.
