Manchester City playmaker Brahim Diaz has rejected the chance to play for Morocco in the hope of representing Spain in the future, say reports.
The 18-year-old has represented La Roja at both Under-19 and Under-17 level and a report in Goal.com outlined how he had no intention of switching to Morocco, whom he can also represent at senior level.
Diaz was born in Malaga while his mother was from the city, although his father was born in the city of Melilla – which is Spanish but situated over the sea, bordering the North African nation.
The report concedes how the playmaker, who has made three first-team appearances for City this season, will reconsider switching nations later in his career should he fail to impress Spanish selectors.
Real Madrid full-back Hakim Achraf has declared for the country, who are also desperate to allow Alaves striker Munir El Haddadi to play for them despite having made a competitive appearance for Spain.
The two nations will face each other in next summer's World Cup.
