Modric hits out at VAR

Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric remains unhappy with the VAR goal line technology system after controversy in the Club World Cup.

Casemiro’s first half effort for the European champions was eventually ruled out by the system after a lengthy delay and the Croatian – who was named man of the match – spoke out against it.

“As far as I’m concerned, there is still confusion regarding VAR,” Modric told reporters after the match, as quoted by Marca.

“Sometimes it is beneficial but then again, Casemiro’s goal was disallowed because Benzema was influencing another player, so I’m not sure.

“I don’t want to get embroiled in this controversy and we should try not to worry about it and move on, as this is not our job as footballers and it is out of our control.

“I made comments before that some people did not like but the truth is I am confused by the system, it is unclear in what situations they will use it.

“Sometimes it takes too long to make the decisions and in this match, it was a mess.”
