La Liga Wk15: Basque takeover!

Basque sides took over La Liga Week 15 as Alaves continued their revival and Athletic Bilbao ended their slump, but Real Sociedad were stunned by Malaga.

Alaves won their first game under former defender Abelardo Fernandez last week, and they followed that up with a 2-0 victory over relegation rivals Las Palmas

Ibai Gomez scored his fourth goal in two games, before Munir El Haddadi made sure of the result to move El Glorioso within three points of safety.

A bore draw was served up between Getafe and Eibar, despite their recent good runs, while Adrian Lopez’s early goal was enough for Deportivo La Coruna to beat Leganes 1-0.

Sunday started with Malaga not only winning their first away game of the season at Real Sociedad but also scoring their first League goals on their travels.

Borja Baston bagged a first-half penalty, before Chory Castro haunted his old team with a third goal in four appearances to lift themselves off the bottom, while La Real’s winless run was extended to four games.

Finally, Aritz Aduriz made his history as Athletic Bilbao defeated Levante 2-1 for their first Liga victory in two months.

Aduriz became the oldest scorer in Athletic’s history, courtesy of his opening penalty, and a tale of two own goals saw Aymeric Laporte’s accidental equaliser cancelled out by Sergio Postigo putting into his own net.
