Rodri believes he is in the ‘ideal place’ to grow after extending his contract at Villarreal until 2022.
The 21-year-old midfielder had been linked with clubs in the Bundesliga, Premier League and the Yellow Submarine’s Primera rivals Atletico Madrid, but put pen-to-paper on a new deal at El Madrigal and insisted he had no second thoughts.
“This renewal means a lot to me. I always had in my mind that at my age the most important thing is to grow as a player and I am in the ideal place to do that. In the future God will decide what happens but I am very happy at a place that has made me the player I am,” he said, Super Deporte reports.
“I’m very proud that a club like Villarreal has given me everything since I came here at 17. I’ve always felt a very special love and I think this club is unique. I had to wait for my chance due to Bruno’s injury, which was bad news for the team because he contributes so much, but it’s true it’s been an opportunity for me to have more minutes.
“Matches give you maturity and they settle you down, especially in a team that shares my philosophy.”
