Simeone hails ‘brave’ Atleti

Diego Simeone hailed his Atletico Madrid players for their ‘bravery’ during Saturday’s 2-1 win against Real Sociedad.

Antoine Griezmann’s last-gasp finish secured all three points for Atleti, who extended their unbeaten run in La Liga to 14 games and won their fourth straight game, and Simeone was enamoured by how his side never stopped ‘insisting’.

“I’m happy. They pulled through a difficult game,” the Coach said after the match.

“In the second half, beyond the mistakes, the team showed pride, insistence and bravery to play in their opponents’ part of the pitch throughout the second half.

“There’s still a lot of the season to go. Now we have to do what needs to be done in London. After that, fate will tell us where we end up.

“Good football as well as faith? No doubt. Koke linked up brilliantly with Correa and Gameiro, finding them with through balls.

“The team were insistent on the wings. Thomas had a good second half, helping out in attack. The team are growing.

“The intensity is more continuous, and it’s powered by the goals we’re scoring. The outcome is different when we don’t [score].”
