Preview: Las Palmas-Betis

Las Palmas and Real Betis both hope to put a winless November behind them in Quique Setien’s return to Gran Canaria this evening.

Las Palmas caretaker Paquito Ortiz on coaching the club he played for: “It’s a responsibility but also my commitment to the club, which I’m facing with enthusiasm, courage and strength.

“I haven’t been here for long, but a lot has happened and now the situation requires us to step forward.

“They’ve decided that it’s me who will coach the team. I came here with the idea of helping the team and the club.

“Between what I left [as a player in 2001] and what I find now, there’s a huge difference.”

Betis boss Quique Setien on facing his former employers: “Neither Las Palmas nor ourselves have arrived at the best moment.

“It’ll be an engaging game. They’re playing at home, but their fans are unhappy, so we must take advantage of that tension to take the game forward.

“For me, it’s a special match. I’m very fond of their fans and I felt very loved on the Island, but my objective is to win.”
