Ernesto Valverde claims Samuel Umtiti’s injury “cost Barcelona two points” against Celta Vigo on Saturday.
Barca were leading Celta 2-1 until Umtiti pulled up as he was chasing Iago Aspas in the build-up to the visitors’ equaliser, the defender since being ruled out for two months.
“That piece of play cost us two points,” the Coach said after the game, which ended 2-2.
“Under normal circumstances, you always have one more defender. Samuel had to abandon the game.
“We tried, there was Pique hitting the post, chances for Alcacer, Paulinho, Leo… Losing a player like Samuel is huge, he was in great form.
“We’re Barca and we always want to win. Sometimes it’s possible and sometimes it’s not. Situations like these always happen.”
