Modric accused of tax fraud

Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric and his wife Vanja have been accused of tax evasion between 2013 and 2014 by Spanish prosecutors.

The Croatian midfielder joined Madrid from Tottenham Hotspur in 2012 and prosecutors said on Wednesday they were made aware of "financial positions" of the player in the Isle of Man.

The 32-year-old now stands accused of owing the Spanish state €870,728 in unpaid taxes, with the fresh accusations coming only a day after teammate Marcelo had to pay back €490k in taxes.

Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Ricardo Carvalho, Angel Di Maria, Javier Mascherano, Radamel Falcao, Fabio Coentrao and Jose Mourinho are among other football stars to have their tax situation whilst in Spain investigated.
