Cazorla confirms further surgery

Santi Cazorla has confirmed he underwent further surgery on his Achilles injury to further delay his return to first-team football.

The Arsenal playmaker has already sat out over a year of action after suffering the injury in a Champions League match, and revealed earlier this month how doctors had told him he would be lucky to walk again.

The 32-year-old, who joined the Gunners in 2012 after a spell with Malaga, had been scheduled to return to football in January although this is now certain to be delayed significantly.

“I have had to undergo further surgery,” Cazorla confirmed on Twitter.

“I have felt further discomfort in my tendon over the past few days and this has led to such necessary action, which will push back my return to football.

“I maintain the illusion and motivation of returning to my great passion – football.”
