Berizzo cancer surgery ‘a success’

Sevilla Coach Eduardo Berizzo underwent ‘successful surgery’ on a malignant prostate cancer but the club has not put a date on his return to work.

The news of the Argentine’s condition was confirmed by the club last week and assistant Ernesto Marcucci will take care of first team affairs until his return to the bench.

“Sevilla FC Coach, Eduardo Berizzo, underwent successful surgery this afternoon for his recently diagnosed prostate cancer, according to the Club's medical services,” read a Sevilla statement.

“His recovery period will depend on his post-operative progress in the next few days.”

Marcucci – who will take charge of the Copa Del Rey tie with Cartagena – said on Tuesday, as quoted by Diario AS, that Berizzo's “mental strength is an example for all of us around him.”
