Ben Yedder wants World Cup place

Sevilla striker Wissam Ben Yedder is hopeful of earning a place in France’s squad for the 2018 World Cup despite never having been capped.

The 27-year-old has hit 10 goals this season – eight of which have come in the Champions League – and faced competition for places nationally with Antoine Griezmann, Alexandre Lacazette, Kylian Mbappe and Olivier Giroud.

“I am concentrating on my targets and nobody can stop me from reaching them,” Ben Yedder told RMC.

“What I want to do is give the Coach a choice to make, because there are already a number of great players in my position who are more established with the national team.

“That means I need to make up for lost time but it is a challenge I want and I believe this will improve my game too.

“I don’t want to give up trying and I believe I can fight for this place, I don’t want to listen to people who doubt me.

“I have shown I can adapt to different clubs and environments, and under new Coaches and formations, but if I keep working hard then it is possible.”
