Pako ‘spared Las Palmas axe’

Las Palmas have reportedly spared Pako Ayestaran the sack, despite the Coach suffering his 13th straight defeat on Sunday.

According to Marca, Las Palmas’ board of directors met after the side fell to a 2-0 loss at home to newly-promoted Levante and ‘unanimously’ agreed to let Ayestaran take charge of the team against Real Sociedad next weekend.

The result not only marked the islanders’ eighth straight defeat but also Ayestaran’s 13th in succession, spanning over his spells with two clubs after ending his tenure at Valencia last year with seven losses.

Despite setting an unwanted record, however, the former Liverpool assistant assured he “would have to be dead” in order to step down.

Las Palmas also dropped to the bottom of La Liga as a result of Malaga’s 3-2 win against Deportivo La Coruna.
