Israeli billionaire to invest in Atleti

Israeli shipping and mining magnate Idan Ofer has bought €50m worth of shares in Atletico Madrid, according to multiple reports in Spain.

Reports across the Spanish press, including in Marca and Diario AS, state the club’s board of directors has given approval to the overseas investment.

The reports state club president Enrique Cerezo and Miguel Angel Gil Marin recently travelled to inform Wanda owner Wang Jianlin of the news, with the Chinese majority shareholders not providing any resistance.

Ofer, who is based in London, is purchasing 750,000 shares in the club, which Marca state translates into €46.425m worth of investment.
