Atleti keen on Ander Herrera deal

Atletico Madrid have sharpened their interest in Manchester United’s Ander Herrera, who is out of contract next summer.

The former Real Zaragoza and Athletic Bilbao midfielder joined United in a €30m deal in 2014 but he is yet to renew his current deal, meaning he can begin negotiating with other clubs from January.

A report in Diario AS details how Atleti are keen to strengthen their squad after a player registration ban which lasts for the 2017 calendar year, with Herrera top of the list.

Los Rojiblancos have already concluded deals for Spain internationals Vitolo and Diego Costa to arrive in January yet several more are expected to follow in the summer.

The Madrid-based side are keen on the central midfielder with the report stating the player is also open to the idea of moving to the Wanda Metropolitano.

Herrera has started United’s last four league games due to the absence of Paul Pogba through injury yet it is unclear on his future role at the club following Nemanja Matic’s summer arrival.
