Raphael Varane insisted he is ‘happy to be back’ in action after being included in the French national team squad.
The Real Madrid defender was a surprise call-up by Didier Deschamps for his nation’s upcoming friendly matches against Wales and Germany after sustaining an injury against Girona a week ago.
“I am happy to be back, as always,” Varane told reporters, as quoted by Marca.
“I have arrived a little later than the rest because I missed the first flight over.”
Meanwhile, Deschamps told reporters: “He suffered a small injury a week ago and could not play on Sunday. We will evaluate the situation and monitor him in the next three days. Whilst it is not a major injury, we will not be taking any chances.”
