PSG protecting Neymar from Madrid?

A report claims Paris Saint-Germain are trying to keep Neymar happy at the club to ward off Real Madrid’s interest.

Mundo Deportivo say PSG are planning to do what it takes to ensure Neymar is happy with everything at the club and aren’t going to listen to any offers for the €222m signing from Barcelona.

It’s noted that Madrid were on the verge of signing Neymar from Santos in 2013 before Barcelona stepped in and President Florentino Perez hasn’t given up on one day having Neymar at Santiago Bernabeu, and Perez and Neymar’s father have stayed in touch via Wagner Riberio, who is acting as an intermediary.

Perez’s timeline for signing Neymar would be tied to Cristiano Ronaldo’s future, with the push for Neymar coming when Ronaldo’s last Madrid contract expires and the club don’t have his hefty wage on the books, though, if it was possible, Madrid would sign Neymar before that point.

MD do point out, however, that Neymar isn’t unhappy in Paris and reports that claimed he regretted leaving Barca were wide of the mark.

Neymar and Edinson Cavani have made peace after their spat over who takes PSG’s penalties, while Neymar has become good friends with Kylian Mbappe and is part of the Brazilian enclave in the PSG squad with Dani Alves, Thiago Silva, Lucas Moura and Thiago Motta.

The only possible wrinkle is the Coach, Unai Emery, who doesn’t give star players any leeway and isn’t considered communicative, which Neymar and a number of his teammates aren’t happy with, but Emery will keep his job as long as results are positive, particularly in the Champions League.
