‘Asensio’s goal killed Las Palmas’

Las Palmas winger Vitolo felt his side were doing well at Real Madrid until Marco Asensio doubled Los Blancos’ advantage.

Casemiro opened the scoring just before half time while Asensio doubled the lead shortly before the hour and Isco capped the victory 15 minutes from the end, with Vitolo insisting the island team were in the match until Asensio got involved.

“We were playing well. We knew that it was very complicated at Santiago Bernabeu, but their second, the one from Asensio, killed us,” Vitolo said post-match, Marca reports.

“We’re fine [in the League] so far but we’ve got another defeat and now we have to think about the match with Levante after the international break.

“Madrid are a great team, they move the ball a lot and although we were well-positioned on the pitch, they made us run a lot. It was difficult to win here, but we did the best we could.”

It was claimed Las Palmas should have had a penalty and Vitolo felt there was an infringement by Casemiro, but the soon-to-be Atletico Madrid man remained philosophical.

“For me, he grabbed my shirt. Sometimes the referee gives to you, other times he takes away. You have to downplay the referee’s actions.”
