Betis return ‘special’ for Portillo

Getafe midfielder Francisco Portillo admits returning to Real Betis on Friday night will be ‘special’ for him and several teammates.

Portillo is one of six Getafe players who are former players of Los Verdiblancos and he spoke of his admiration for the fans of the Seville-based side.

“It will be a special match, I am very grateful to the Betis fans,” Portillo told an interview with Marca ahead of the match.

“There are six players at our club who previously played at Betis, with Jorge Molina the most recognisable of course. It will be special for all of us – the fans have our total respect.

“An extra motivation? Not particularly, we try our best in every match as each game is a big challenge for us and one of the team’s characteristics is our work rate, the club (Betis) is in our past but not present.

“The strong start from Betis is not a surprise, they are a massive clubs who appointed a great Coach and signed very good players, this will be a massive challenge.

“We have made a solid start ourselves and we have competed well in every match and we hope to continue on this path.”
