Godin: Whistles are understandable

Diego Godin admits he can ‘understand’ whistles from Atletico Madrid fans but believes the club must ‘stick together’.

Home fans grew frustrated with their side after they were held for a second consecutive Champions League matchday by Azerbaijani side Qarabag.

“These whistles are normal and understandable,” Godin is quoted as saying by Marca after the match.

“We can only look at ourselves and what we have done and are capable of doing, you always want to improve regardless of the situation.

“The fans must stay behind us and keep supporting us, as a club we all must stick together and emerge from this poor run of results – we all need to try more.

“What’s the solution? If I knew that, then I would be Diego Simeone! We all know we have a duty to go and win our games but right now we are not doing that.

“As things stand, we are out of the Champions League because we must rely on other results, it is a tough situation.”

Atleti have only three points from their opening four Champions League matches and are on the verge of elimination from the group.
