Zidane ‘not worried’ by Girona trip

Zinedine Zidane insists Real Madrid “aren’t worried” about their trip to Girona this weekend, despite the political tension between Spain and Catalonia.

Trouble has been speculated for Sunday’s match, given Madrid represent the Spanish capital and Girona hail from the Catalan region, but Zidane was confident his side would not be drawn into any controversies.

“Vallejo’s red? He can’t be happy, although he had a very serious game,” the Coach said after Los Blancos’ 2-0 win at Fuenlabrada in the Copa del Rey on Thursday, which saw Jesus Vallejo sent off on his official debut.

“These things happen. He saw red, but I’ll stick with his overall performance.

“Feelings? We didn’t concede, we were patient and found our opponents’ goal. All our players had a great game and we’re all satisfied.

“Girona? We’re not worried, nothing changes our trip there. The security for this match will be like it’s always been.

“We’ll play like we’ve always done and without thinking of other things. I’m not going to send any messages [to the players].

“We’ll think about our game, we want to play football and put on a good show. I think the necessary security will be in place so nothing happens.

“Castilla players? I thought I’d returned two years after [my spell coaching them]! I’m glad that I enjoy what I’m doing and I am now for the win against Fuenlabrada and our performance. I lost to them once, but today we won.

“Fuenlabrada? I don’t remember of two years ago that, but what’s clear is that today, they’re a good team.

“They’re second in their League and a good team. The first half finishing 0-0 means they did very well and we had to be patient.”
