Girona secure first away win

Girona secured their first-ever away win in Spain’s top flight with a 2-1 victory at Deportivo La Coruna on Monday evening.

An Aday Benitez penalty and Cristian Portu’s strike 19 minutes from time were enough for Pablo Machin’s men to move three points clear of the relegation zone.

Lucas Perez’s second-half penalty had levelled proceedings for Depor, but it wasn’t enough for them to avoid their fifth League defeat of the campaign and be leapfrogged by Girona into 15th.

The Catalans’ next League clash is on Sunday, when they host Real Madrid for the first time ever, while Depor travel to Las Palmas, again on Monday evening.
