La Liga Wk9: Valencia thrash Sevilla

Valencia demolished Sevilla to leave Eduardo Berizzo under pressure in Saturday’s Week 9 action as Real Betis bounced back with victory over Alaves.

However, the weekend kicked off with Levante-Getafe, and neither promoted side were able to arrest their winless runs after a 1-1 draw.

The deadlock wasn’t broken until the 58th minute, when Faycal Fajr gave Getafe the lead, but Jose Luis Morales’ third goal of the season rescued Levante a point.

Betis, on the other hand, did succeed in doing so, courtesy of 2-0 win against Alaves.

Antonio Sanabria opened the scoring with a goal in his fifth straight appearance, before Alexis Ruano made sure of a second-straight defeat for his side 15 minutes from time, when he put the ball into his own net.

The highlight of the day was undoubtedly at Mestalla, where high-flying Valencia thrashed Sevilla 4-0.

Paris Saint-Germain loanee Goncalo Guedes surpassed Cristiano Ronaldo as the most productive Portuguese player of the season in Europe’s top five Leagues, helping himself to a brace.

Those finishes were sandwiched by a Santi Mina effort and another from Simone Zaza, his eighth of the campaign to leave him just three behind Pichichi Lionel Messi.

Valencia remained unbeaten and four points clear in second place, while Sevilla suffered their third defeat on the trot, conceding 10 goals in the process.
