Sevilla appoint team manager

Sevilla have appointed former Las Palmas striker Javi Guerrero as their new team manager.

A statement on Sevilla’s official website confirms Guerrero’s role “will see him act as a link between the Club and the First Team.”

The 41-year-old [pictured, left] began his career at Real Madrid, without making a first-team appearance for Los Blancos, before going on to turn out for the likes of Albacete, Racing Santander, Celta Vigo, Recreativo Huelva and Las Palmas in the top two divisions.

He then retired in 2013 to become an analyst for the islanders and was promoted to first-team assistant a year later, helping them win promotion to La Liga.

Guerrero appears to be an appointment by Sevilla sporting director Oscar Arias, who signed the capital native for Recreativo and Las Palmas.
