Pep dedicates City win to Catalans

Pep Guardiola has dedicated his Manchester City team’s 2-1 Champions League victory over Napoli to the Catalan independence movement.

The former Barcelona boss saw his side move into an early two-goal lead courtesy of Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus, before they were pegged back by Napoli, who missed a first-half penalty.

Guardiola then used his post-match Press conference to offer support to those imprisoned by the Spanish government following the independence referendum in his native Catalonia at the beginning of this month.

“This is one of the proudest victories of my career and I am so, so proud of my players. We knew it was going to be tough,” said Pep.

“But this win is dedicated to them. We have shown in Catalonia that citizenship is bigger than any ideas. We hope they will be released soon.”
