Marcelo accused of tax evasion

Marcelo was accused of committing tax fraud just hours before playing in Real Madrid’s 1-1 draw with Tottenham Hotspur.

The Provincial Prosecutor of Madrid filed a lawsuit against Marcelo on Tuesday, alleging the left-back had defrauded the Spanish state of €490,917.70 in 2013 and devised a corporate structure to deliberately hide his earnings from image rights.

“We created more chances than them,” he said after the game.

“The result was bad for Madrid because we didn’t win. We have to win every game, not just away from but also at home.

“I don’t know what happened, but we tried to win the game. We didn’t run around like dummies.

“Benzema’s misses? These things happen, strikers can miss chances for a few games and then score in others. He’ll be sad because he didn’t score.

“Alleged tax evasion? My lawyers are on it and I hope it’ll be resolved as soon as possible.”

The Brazilian is the latest Blancos player past and present to be accused of tax fraud after the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Fabio Coentrao and Angel Di Maria.
