Saul admits to feeling ‘guilty’

Saul Niguez admitted he felt ‘guilty’ prior to Saturday night’s game against Barcelona for not chances which had fallen his way.

The Spain international midfielder – who had previously started all of Atleti’s matches this season without finding the net – opened the scoring with a fantastic goal from outside the box in the 1-1 draw.

“I had a little bit of guilt for not scoring before,” Saul confessed after the game, as reported by Marca.

“A number of times this season I’d had chances to score and not taken them, so when the space opened up outside the penalty area for the strike I did not hesitate to try.

“We deserved a draw I think, Barcelona are a great team and they always make chances but Jan (Oblak) made a number of really good saves, and we created chances too.

“Our gameplan was to sit back and hit them on the break when they left spaced, but we wanted to have more of the ball in their half and in the second half we were penned in too much.”
