Uruguay insist Suarez is fit

Uruguay Coach Oscar Tabarez insists Luis Suarez is fit to face Bolivia and does not require knee surgery, despite reports in Spain contradicting this.

Barca allegedly Suarez to undergo surgery to remove a meniscal cyst from his right knee in November with the Spanish press citing the Blaugrana as wanting him to rest up over the international break.

“If this (cyst) was big enough to require surgery, it would have happened already,” Tabarez told reporters, as quoted by Uruguay media sources.

“As far as we are concerned he is fit enough to play and in terms of his recovery he can always surprise you.

“Luis has been put through tests by us and has passed them, he would not give up as he’s so stubborn, but that is not a bad thing and we will never discount him.

“His form? There have been so many occasions when you consider substituting him and then all of a sudden he scores a vital goal.

“Ultimately he’s fit enough to play and form is temporary and he can always pull us out of a hole.”
