PSG ‘battle Barca for Coutinho’

Paris Saint-Germain will reportedly battle Barcelona for Liverpool attacker Philippe Coutinho in January.

According to Sport, Coutinho is an ‘express wish’ of PSG President Nasser Al-Khelaifi, sporting director Antero Henrique and former Barca left-back Maxwell, who is now a technical coordinator at Parc des Princes.

Furthermore, Maxwell would have already opened talks with Coutinho’s representatives over ‘preventing’ the Blaugrana from signing the Brazilian.

Nonetheless, the newspaper notes the 25-year-old is still top of the Camp Nou side’s wishlist for January.

Barca famously launched an assault on Coutinho late in the summer transfer window, only to see several bids in excess of €100m rejected by Liverpool.

However, Sport adds PSG tried to sign the former Espanyol loanee before Barca did, although Coutinho “preferred to bet all his chips” on the Catalans.

Any move to France would inevitably lead to renewed calls for a UEFA investigation into the capital giants’ spending after they paid a world-record €222m for Neymar and pledged to spend €180m on Kylian Mbappe.
