Alaves deny Pellegrino claims

Alaves insist “they have fulfilled Mauricio Pellegrino’s contract in its entirety”, amidst reports the Coach is demanding up to €500,000 from the club.

According to Diario de Noticias de Alava and the Independent, Pellegrino is planning to sue Alaves after they did not pay him a significant sum for taking them to the Copa del Rey Final last season.

However, a statement on the Basques’ official website reads: “In light of the Press reports that speak of details of bonus payments to Mauricio Pellegrino, Deportivo Alaves SAD states:

“1. The bonus amounts included in Mauricio Pellegrino’s contract have been paid in full.

“2. The bonuses in question relate to: avoiding relegation, the Copa del Rey and League finish.

“Mauricio Pellegrino, through his representatives, is demanding an additional bonus, which wasn’t included in his contract and alleges that he is owed a part of the players’ bonuses.

“Deportivo Alaves SAD conclude that they have fulfilled Mauricio Pellegrino’s contract in its entirety.

“We believe that we should not pay twice for the same thing.”

The Argentine, who moved to Premier League side Southampton over the summer, also guided Alaves to a mid-table Liga finish in his sole season at Mendizorroza.
