Miserable Modric joins Croatia 100 club

Luka Modric picked up his 100th Croatia cap on Friday, but it proved a miserable occasion as his country only drew 1-1 with Finland.

The result left Croatia at risk of missing out on the 2018 World Cup and needing to beat Ukraine on Monday in order to have any chance of automatically qualifying for the tournament next summer.

“What do we do [with Coach Ante Cacic] now? We started with him and now we have to just keep going,” the Real Madrid midfielder told Goal.com.

“Until our match with Iceland, everything was fine and now all of a sudden, nothing is of any worth.

“That’s the honest truth, the situation is catastrophic, but we still have a chance to make it right.

“What happened [against Finland]? Nothing, we have only compromised our path to the World Cup…

“When we were looking for the goal, we had a few chances and [the] initiative. When we scored, it was unbelievable that we would retreat against Finland of all teams.

“It is unbelievable that we are struggling against teams like Kosovo and Finland, [when] before we would have beaten them with ease.”
