Odriozola revels in ‘dream’ debut

Alvaro Odriozola revelled in a ‘dream’ debut for Spain after he helped them beat Albania and qualify for the 2018 World Cup.

Odriozola replaced Dani Carvajal at right-back for Spain and impressed in his first start, setting up the final goal in a 3-0 victory over Albania to book La Roja’s place in Russia next summer.

“Debut? It was incredible,” the Real Sociedad starlet said after the game.

“Debut, starter, assist, three points and qualification… it’s all a dream.

“Self-belief? Ultimately, this is a game and we’re used to situations like these.

“Great performance? Julen [Lopetegui] told me to play like I do for Real Sociedad.

“He told me he knew everything that I could’ve given the team. World Cup? Making the squad would be a dream, but there’s still a long way to go. Whatever will be, will be.”
