Varane credits ZZ for growth

Raphael Varane believes he has improved as a player under the guidance of Real Madrid Coach Zinedine Zidane.

The 24-year-old signed for Los Blancos in 2011 from Lille after being personally recommended by his fellow compatriot Zidane.

“He has given me a lot in terms of not only my play but also my attitude and the risks I take,” Varane told an interview with Marca.

“He does not allow me to stay in my comfort zone, the experience has means it is a fantastic opportunity for me to learn from him.

“I always try to play to my strengths but now at the age of 24 I’m a much more rounded player than I was six years at 18 – I have established my style of play.

“You always want to continue to improve and I’m still a number of years from the peak age many players have so it is normal I should expect this.

“A lot has happened in a short period of time – last season we won La Liga and the Champions League along with the European Super Cup and now the Spanish Super Copa.”

Varane has gone on to make 197 appearances for Madrid, scoring ten times.
