Achraf savours ‘unforgettable’ debut

Achraf Hakimi has labelled his first team debut for Real Madrid in Sunday’s win over Espanyol as a ‘day I will never forget’.

The 18-year-old right-back replaced Dani Carvajal in Zinedine Zidane’s starting XI after the Spain international was ruled out of the encounter with illness.

“I received a phone call from the Coach to tell me I would be playing,” Achraf is quoted as telling reporters by Marca.

“He advised me to stay calm during the game and honestly this is a day I will never forget – it was a very happy day for me to make my debut at the best club in the world.

“I’ve had a lot of help from my teammates and colleagues to help me reach this level and I have worked very hard, but they all make it easier.”

The Madrid-native has already won three international caps for Morocco and was integrated into the first team squad at the Bernabeu over summer.
