Eight goals shared in Anoeta thriller

Real Sociedad and Real Betis played out the first 4-4 draw in La Liga in nine years at a rain-soaked Anoeta on Sunday.

The pulsating end-to-end encounter ended La Real’s run of three consecutive defeats and the visitor’s three-game winning streak.

Paraguayan striker Antonio Sanabria scored for the third successive game to give Quique Setien’s side a sixth minute lead but Willian Jose levelled seven minutes later.

Mikel Oyarzabal netted in the 26th minute to put Sociedad in front for the first time but within two minutes the score was levelled as Zouhair Feddal powered home a header from a corner.

Joaquin gave Betis the lead a minute after the break before fellow veteran Xabi Prieto once more restored parity with an angled finish.

Sergio Leon thought he’d won it for the visitors with a fine solo run and finish seven minutes from time but Diego Llorente equalised for Eusebio Sacristan’s side and the defender could then have seen red for hauling Leon down as he ran through on goal.

Los Verdiblancos sit in sixth position having already played four of last season’s top six away from home while the Basque side lie in eighth.
