Messi set to surpass Puyol

Lionel Messi will play his 594th game for Barcelona on Sunday against Las Palmas, surpassing Carles Puyol.

Speaking to Mundo Deportivo for its Saturday edition, Puyol felt Messi was at “the right age to do even more” and admitted his old Barca teammates stood “no chance” against the Argentine in training.

“Leo’s mature, he’s at the right age and he’ll go on to do even more,” the former Spain defender told Mundo Deportivo.

“He’s won everything, he’s the best in history, and keep going with this desire to improve and win is priceless.

“Training? If he wanted to, he’d give you no chance. His team always won. He’d be going very quickly, while the rest would go in slow motion.”

The 30-year-old would have played less games for the Blaugrana than only Andres Iniesta (638) and record holder Xavi Hernandez (767).
