‘Malaga unearthed gem in Rolan’

Malaga boss Michel Gonzalez believes his club have unearthed a gem in forward Diego Rolan after his brace in Saturday’s 3-3 draw with Athletic Bilbao.

Rolan’s pair of strikes on his home debut for Malaga saw them come back from 3-1 down, although the Andalusians’ first point of the season was overshadowed by a section of fans fans whistling attacker Adrian Gonzalez – son of Coach Michel.

“We know this draw doesn’t solve anything, but the best thing is that my players have gone home happy, as have the fans,” he said after the game.

“We’re very happy. I have to say thank-you to my players because they showed decorum and that they were alive.

“Rolan? Diego played very well. He was able to read the game all over the pitch. He’s a very good player and he’ll give us a lot this season.

“Both goals magnify his performance, but Diego’s a player of great quality.

“Whistles to Adrian? I think all my players, regardless of whether they’re right or not, don’t deserve to be scrutinised.

“They’ve been very good, in terms of attitude. When you win or lose, everyone plays their part. We don’t have Messi.”
