Valverde delighted with Suarez goal

Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde expressed his delight at seeing Luis Suarez return to the goal trail at Girona on Saturday.

Suarez was rested against Eibar midweek and had scored just once in La Liga but marked his comeback at Girona with Barca’s final goal in a 3-0 victory, which kept them four points clear at the top.

“There was some pressure on us as both Madrid and Atletico had won,” the Coach said after the game.

“Still, we have managed to take the lead, playing with our heads above all, but also with our hearts.

“Man-marking Messi? It can happen, but it’s also true that this makes for moments when he can drag his marker out of position and take advantage.

“Messi came to me in the 10th minute to ask how I wanted him to deal with his marker. Messi did well, he was calm and helped the team.

“Suarez? A striker lives for goals, and it’s clear that the relationship Luis has with goals is wonderful for us.

“His aggression in the last few yards of the pitch is impressive. It’s too bad that he didn’t score another goal to regain even more confidence.

“Iniesta? He’s been a crucial figure in Barcelona’s history of Barcelona and he remains so for us.

“This team can play through any situation, when you win easily or when the game is gridlocked and everything becomes much more complicated.”
