Jordi Alba says Ernesto Valverde is “managing Barcelona’s squad very well” after their 3-0 win at Girona and that no man-marking can stop Lionel Messi.
Alba’s half-volley was turned in by Aday Benitez for Barca’s first goal in their first-ever La Liga derby against Girona, and the left-back spoke of his happiness at how things were going under Valverde.
“It was a good match,” he said after the game.
“All the players are responding to what the Coach’s asking us and everything’s going well, but it’s clear that there’s still a lot of the season left.
“Man-marking on Messi? It doesn’t matter whether you put one or two men on him, with the quality he has, he can leave anyone behind.
“If we talk about Leo, it’s clear that ultimately, he’s very difficult to stop. Valverde? He’s managing the squad very well.
“Practically all of us are playing, some more and some less, but that’s normal. The truth is that we’re responding very well [to his methods].”
