Atletico Madrid confirm Diego Costa deal

Atletico Madrid have confirmed they have reached an agreement with Chelsea for the transfer of striker Diego Costa.

A fee has not been confirmed by either club but the 28-year-old looks set to become Atletico’s most expensive ever signing in a €60m deal which would include add-ons.

Whilst the transfer window is currently closed, the Spain international would be allowed to train with his new teammates and could begin playing for the club in January 2018.

“Atletico Madrid and Chelsea have reached an agreement in principle for the transfer of Diego Costa,” read an Atletico statement.

“The agreement is pending formalisation of the contract between our club and the Spain international striker.

“The English club has authorised Diego Costa to travel to Madrid in the next few days to undergo a medical examination and finalize his contract with our club.”

Costa scored 64 goals in 135 appearances for Los Rojiblancos before moving to Stamford Bridge in the summer of 2014.
