Navas nets winner on 400th appearance

Jesus Navas netted the only goal of the game on his 400th appearance for Sevilla in their 1-0 defeat of Las Palmas.

The winger’s cross-cum-shot seven minutes from time caught out visiting goalkeeper Leandro Chichizola to settle a disjointed match of few clear-cut chances.

It was a story of two wide men, with Las Palmas loanee Vitolo returning to the Sanchez Pizjuan for the first time since leaving the club to join Atletico Madrid on a permanent deal.

The visitors’ team bus was scrawled with ‘Vitolo traitor’ graffiti ahead of the encounter, while the 27-year-old was greeted with a chorus of boos throughout.

Nonetheless, Sevilla won their third successive League game to lift themselves into second place, just two points off leaders Barcelona, while the islanders saw their two-game winning streak halted.
