Real Madrid are targeting a future deal for Athletic Bilbao goalkeeper and Spain Under-21 international Kepa Arrizabalaga, according to reports in Spain.

The 22-year-old’s deal at the San Mames expires in June 2018 and despite negotiations for a new contract beginning in January earlier this year, Marca report talks have stalled.

The report continues that this has alerted officials at the Bernabeu, who are said to have expressed their interest in the player to his agent.

Zinedine Zidane reportedly has ‘100% trust and faith’ in current Madrid goalkeeper Keylor Navas although now the Costa Rican is 30 and a promising young goalkeeper is available on a free, the situation may change.

The Basque giants are still hopeful of a renewal for Kepa and want his new deal to include a release clause of €65m – his current clause is €10m – but a deal being struck still appears to be a long way off.
