Karanka rejects Alaves approach

Former Middlesbrough boss Aitor Karanka has turned down an approach from managerless La Liga outfit Alaves, according to reports in Spain.

The Basque club dismissed Coach Luis Zubeldia on Sunday after a 3-0 home loss to Villarreal left them with no goals and no points after their opening four matches.

44-year-old Karanka has been out of employment since departing Boro in March earlier this year but reportedly rejected the approach due to the recent death of his father, according to Cadena Ser.

Argentine Zubeldia replaced compatriot Mauricio Pellegrino in June – having managed in South America for the past nine years – but the club’s patience has run out after only four matches.

Karanka was previously Jose Mourinho's number two at Real Madrid and also coached the Spanish Under-16 side.
