Grizi: Metropolitano best stadium

Antoine Griezmann insists Wanda Metropolitano “is the best stadium I’ve ever played at” after Atletico Madrid’s 1-0 win against Malaga in La Liga.

The Metropolitano opened its doors for the first time on Saturday evening, with Griezmann scoring the first goal at the new stadium, and the attacker spoke of his delight at writing himself into Atleti folklore.

“I’m very happy, firstly for the victory, which was important, and I’m also happy to have scored here. I wanted to and hopefully I’ll score many more,” the Coach said after the game.

“We really wanted to win, we already trained here on Thursday but something was missing – the 12th man.

“The truth is that, and I’m not just saying it because it’s mine, it’s the best stadium I’ve played at.

“I was really looking forward to playing in La Liga again and I’m working for the team and I’m very happy to do it again. I’m feeling better.

“We have to keep going like this. The team had won 5-1 at Las Palmas and played a good match last week. We’ll get better with every game.

“These are three very important points after playing three games away from home.

“We had a good game, although we found it difficult going forward. After a brilliant pass from Angelito [Correa] came the goal.

“It’s an honour to write my name into the history of the club. Hopefully more of them come to help the team.

“I didn’t start the season very well, with a red card, but you learn from everything.

“I really wanted to have a complete game and help the team. Luckily, I scored and we’ve taken the points.

“During the warm-up, the fans sang my name, so I don’t think I’ve lost the fans. They expect great things from me, they want goals, work, sacrifice…

“There’ll always be bad comments, but I’ll stick with the good ones. I receive a lot of support and that’s why I want to give everything to this team.

“When I scored, I thought about my family. They haven’t lived the situation very well. I went to that corner because my family was there.

“Normally I’d have gone to celebrate with Correa. We must show our desire on the pitch.

“It’s easy to say but difficult to do. We’ll do everything possible to win a trophy. We all want to, me being the first.”
