Xabi Prieto ‘dreams’ of Europa League title

Real Sociedad captain Xabi Prieto admits it would be a ‘dream’ to lift the Europa League trophy at the end of the season.

The 34-year-old passed the 500-game landmark for La Real – who have won all three La Liga fixtures this season – last month with the club starting their European campaign against Norwegian champions Rosenborg this season.

“Our dream is to win the Europa League,” Prieto told Marca.

“We want to demonstrate in Europe how strong a side we are and what we are capable of, that we can compete against anyone.

“We have to work hard from the first match to achieve these dreams and ambitions but yes, I believe this is possible.

“It is crucial to get off to a winning start as the teams at this level are well-matched and every match counts in European groups of this nature.

“Rosenborg? They are one of the great clubs of their country who are accustomed to continued success so will be complicated.

“We hope the Anoeta will be full as it was against Villarreal, our fans can push on to another victory.”
