Barcelona were reportedly willing to offer Angel Di Maria an annual salary of €10m which would have made him their third highest earner.
According to Marca, the Blaugrana were extremely keen to land the Argentine winger with both Ernesto Valverde and the club’s board seeing him as an ideal replacement to compensate for Neymar’s exit.
Such a wage budget was set aside for the former Real Madrid star which would have made him the club’s third highest earner behind only Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez, but ahead of Gerard Pique and Andres Iniesta.
The deal eventually broke down as Paris Saint-Germain were demanding more in transfer fees than Barca were willing to offer with the Catalans unwilling to assist them with potential UEFA Financial Fair Play requirements.
