‘Madrid will see real Bale soon’

Zinedine Zidane has assured Real Madrid fans that “we’ll see the real Gareth Bale as he continues to improve” after his assist against APOEL.

Bale teed up Cristiano Ronaldo for Madrid’s first goal in their 3-0 victory on Wednesday, and Zidane believes the Welshman will put his injury problems behind him and go on to play an important role for Los Blancos this season.

“Today we needed to play well. We wanted to start the competition well,” the Coach told UEFA.com after the game.

“The first half wasn’t great but the second was very good. It’s always important to get three points early on and keeping a clean sheet is crucial too.”

“Ronaldo? He’s a key player for us. He’s important. He’s always there when we need him and he always scores. I hope he continues in the same vein.”

“The only thing I can say is that we want to continue doing what we’re doing. We have started the season well, winning two titles in a spectacular fashion.”

“Bale is capable of playing in a number of positions and on the left he can do a good job too. He showed his flexibility.

“Today we started with Ronaldo and Bale as forwards and then he shifted. I’m pleased with the side in general and above all the second period.

“Bit by bit we’re seeing Bale get back. He was out for four months last season but did a good pre-season without injury playing a lot of games.

“We’ll see the real Gareth as he continues to improve. I’m happy with how he played today. He got the assist for the first.

“We’re happy with the side in general, which is what is important for me.

“This is an important competition to us and it was imperative to get the three points today and start the group well.

“We’re going to go game by game in the Champions League.”
